Boston Chinatown Restaurant Review: Suishaya

zagatI don’t know if many of you know, but I’ve been having the worst luck with the Zagat rated restaurants in Boston…for various reasons, but this one tops the cake for me.

* Fair warning, this one is going to be one nasty, rant worthy review. *

I love Asian of all types and I have a pretty high tolerance for food… with that said, I do not have high tolerance for bugs, and unknown specimen of hair. I’ll let your imagination take you around that one cause if it was regular you know I wouldn’t highlight the unknown… just saying, ya feeling me?!

I’ve eaten here once before with my friends and found the place surprisingly solid in its Japanese and Korean dishes… even if I wanted a fusion Kimchi Udon Noodles. It tasted wonderfully good, even at the end of the day seeing some unwanted stuff. The few bites I had, they were what I expected.

Buuuut…. seriously, two bites in… I see an obscene piece of hair and nasty bug. Didn’t take the picture of hair because the thought itself is volatile for me… much less a graphic picture that screams millions of obscene words in my head. But for your viewing pleasure, you can get a glimpse of this nasty one:

Front and center, dead and harden, little black bug of hard shell back and tiny creeper legs… It’s not black pepper… even the Boyfriend says so. Now please say it with me… what the fuck??  It wasn’t particularly busy that evening when I came in!

That aside, I’ll address the food from memory of my first experience. The food is well seasoned. It can be a little fattening as the first time I had Bulgogi Udon there, pure pork fat was ebbing the top layer of the soup. It got overwhelming quickly. The portions are large and so I had a great amount of left over after dinner with friends. I also like the “piattini – Italian small dishes”. I don’t really know what to call them honestly. It’s the typical Korean side dishes (?) with marinated soy beans, bean sprouts, kimchi, and pickled daikon and carrots. They were delightful.

I thought the wait staff could use some better training, but I suppose it could just be Asians treating other Asians (and their non-Asian friend). My friends and I did not understand a lick from the waitress and she wasn’t very attentive with her replies. I think she was ushering us in and out… which made no sense to the extravagant tip we left behind. Let’s just say we were happy for a few occasions and didn’t let her attitude spoiled our evening.

The restaurant is gorgeous. It’s a small but cozy restaurant. Love the light fixture, love the warm and inviting colors and atmosphere. Sadly, not a place for my friends and me after this particular experience.

Hello ladies!!

The entries are in and are currently being updated throughout the day. My apologies if I missed you; please drop a comment and I’ll fix that quickly. Before getting to my entry, I'd like to link everyone entry first.

I was annoyed at how difficult this month's challenge was... I was pretty much stumped until the beginning of this week when I realized since I'm the host, I can't just link everyone's entry and not have my own. It was an annoyance...ugh. So I pulled my butt out of the kitchen, take off my adorable flower apron to put something together... you'll have to excuse the poor quality of the pictures (recently just gave my baker in training sister my camera) and how awfully messy my apartment is at the moment. We just had a battle with some unwanted visitors and am in the process of moving out as well.

In my typical style:

I like being comfortable because I have really sensitive skin... which is partly why I don't like jeans. I like as few clothes and accessories as possible so I'm very careful of texture, materials and color. Just a pop of color.

Putting a spin on the outfit to give it a chic feel, I decided to look at my younger sister for inspiration. Keeping the tunic as my transitioning piece, I decided to use items that are out of my comfort zone, such as heels, jacket and silk-like scarf.

I'd probably wear this outfit minus the heels. The heels are on the high side, maybe aroun 3.5 inches. I'm a high heels noob... so after trying them on for a bit to take these pictures, my feet were throbbing.

Eek, just realize I didn’t follow my own challenge directions… epic fail. -__-
